Wow, Wow, Wow..

What else can I say about the wonderful afternoon at the Newton Yacht Club at the Johnston Girls Benefit Turkey Dunk. The weather was perfect, a warm 82 degrees at the start, and probably a comfy 70 degrees at the end.  Let me start by thanking some people who helped pull this off, I have to start with my wife Linda who did all of the shopping and had to put up with me for the last 2 months, Brad Smith and Kathleen Wenckus started by helping me in the kitchen, but it did not take them long to figure out that I was more in the way so they threw me out of my own kitchen! Kathleen also lugged 15 turkeys.  When I saw Kathleen's husband Danny doing dishes, I tried to relieve him but he threw me out too! If I attempted to thank every person this page would be a mile long, so let me just try and thank a few more, Bobby Johnston, Lauren Johnston, Raffle Ticket Sales-Ladies Casey & Allison Johnston, Raffle Donations Natalie Patey, Propane Billy McCaffrey, Setup & Door Ticket Collection Kent & Anne Huminik, Turkey Carving teams of Dominic Piselli/ Kevin Huminik & Hadley Eichler/ John Benoit, Bartender Red Charlton, Paul Mead and WAAF for the Patriots tickets, and everyone who pitched in to make this day a huge success.
 

How about a few fun-facts:
 

Closest Calculations have 187 attendees. Total door tickets sold were 206.
225 pounds of turkey.
One deep fryer failed so we only used 2, It took just over 4 hours to cook 15 turkeys.
60 pounds of mashed potatoes.
24 cans of corn was not enough, it was the only item we ran out of.
The parking lot was so full, some had to park on the grass.
We needed 2 big tables to fit all the desserts that everyone brought.
Shirley has not changed a bit !
The raffle had over 60 items.
1,960 tickets sold for the Patriots raffle.
According to an article on Snopes.com, Tryptophan in turkey will not make you sleepy.
High temp reached 84 degrees, average temp for Oct 6 is 56 degrees.
There were 4 leftover fully cooked turkeys.
One turkey made its way to the river and in the morning was still there but picked clean to the bone. Happy fish.

How much was raised at the benefit? Enough to....
Purchase 2 brand new Mercury Bobcats in 1977.
Send one student to Harvard in 1976.
Pay a doctor for 26 months in 1930.
Purchase 8 Ford Model T cars in 1908.
Pay Babe Ruth's salary for one month in 1932.
